GIVEN that one in four children (25%) now grow up in one-parent (single parental) homes and that 42% of marriages end in divorce, you might expect prejudice against single parents to be a thing of the past. Yet, a recent poll found that 75% of single parents had experienced stigma. With The Women (Single Mothers) taking a huge of the heat. They are largely Ajudged as Indisciplined, insubordinate, uncultured and an unfit example of a virtuous woman/mother. Even their children are not left out as they largely termed “ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate”.
It’s maybe not surprising, then, that mothers who took part in my research interviews admitted feeling isolated, stigmatised and frustrated with negative stereotypes. Even though they are not 100% responsible for their current situations. They however wish they had a platform & opportunity to tell „their side of the story“ and express how they feel and wish to be Perceived and treated in the society. Hence on this event, we present such platform to live and also online AUDIENCE.
By this, we intend to educate the society on the travails of Single mothers and help improve the perception of the public if not totally stop the Stigmatisation.
To achieve this we will. 1. Hold a discussion session, were some single mothers will share their stories before a live audience. 2. Share the recorded video clip on our social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook) to reach targeted audience in Steiermark & Austria in general.
